Backstory:
The world Legs is from resides in the phrase "Eat or be Eaten". Though it wasn't always like that...
Monsters used to live reclusively, like spiders, and prey upon humans and other animals that were feeble enough to walk into their webs...or, if the monster was small, smaller mammals. Humans became fed up with this, feeling that their lives were at risk...and thus the war happened, though it was barely a fair fight. Wizards shoved them Underground, where they spread out the best they could...And it was fine, for a few years at least. There were animals that had made the large cave system their home, and they survived off of them.
Until they ran out. As starvation began taking route, monster began turning on monster, and only the strongest survived, lest they be devoured themselves. Any human that fell into the Underground would be hunted down and treated like a feast, and only once the entirety of the body was gone, was the soul finally transported to Asgore.
They were desperate. Sans and Papyrus couldn't keep this up forever. Despite the LV they had gained from simply trying to stay alive...mostly Papyrus, as he did the brunt of the killing for his weaker brother. So instead, he delved into theories of magic. Trying to find any way he possibly could to fix something. Whether that be taking down the barrier, or simply getting he and Papyrus out of there, before it was too late. By the time Sans had come across that long-distance teleportation spell, the fourth human had already been eaten. The Underground's population was dwindling rapidly.
He had no choice but to attempt it. But his lack of knowledge just caused more problems than anything else...considering he hadn't exactly validated a place to go, just the want to get away as far as possible. And maybe his magic was far stronger than he had thought, or, more than likely, something else was looking out for them. Somewhere.
The two of them woke up on the streets of the Swap District, where other monsters with their faces were trying to ask them if they were ok or not. If it wasn't for the magical strength of the Underswap Papyrus that had been closest, there probably would have been casualties that day.
They had been fed, and given knowledge of this new place. and yet, Legs couldn't find a suitable job. He wasn't as smart as most other Sanses, wasn't as strong with his magic...Papyrus put many monsters off, having lost his carefree personality as his LV had grown and grown.
And yet, they found their calling. Working in the Black Market, where their powers to cause pain and restrain others was perfected. To get monsters to conform to them. Despite the fact that they had no reason to hunt any longer...they still struck fear in the monsters caught in their webs. Whatever a monster needed to be 'trained' for. They did it, and relished in their power.
